Pet Portrait Client Testimonials.

Dear Emma, having accepted the challenging commission to paint portraits of the family dogs “Ned” , “Buzz”, “Freddie” and “Benji”, I just wanted to write to say how successful they were and how well they were received by my two daughters and their respective partners.
Ned and Freddie , being entirely black, must have taken extreme skill to capture their unique characters. Indeed, you have captured the nuances of the various characters of all four dogs perfectly.
Thank you so much for such excellent work. - Kind regards, Ted Ward

'Charlie' Pet Portrait, Mixed Media.
" Thank you so much Emma & Marc for the fantastic drawing & framing of my pets portrait. Emma has done a wonderful job of capturing all the features that make Charlie cat unique & showing an exquisite eye for detail. Marc has framed the picture beautifully & the complimentary subtle frame colour allows the variety of hues of colour in Charlie's fur to pop! I am absolutely thrilled with the picture & it will be taking pride of place in my home. I highly recommend Ivy Cottage Studio for their professionalism & high quality end product.” - Becky

Tips on taking a great photo of your pet for their portrait.

  • Firstly please ensure your photo is of a high resolution as I need as much detail of your pets markings as possible.
  • Ideally photos taken of your pet at their eye level is best and creates a natural rather than a foreshortened pose.
  • I find that placing a food treat on top of your head whilst taking the photo captures great eye contact!
  • Good lighting is key to a great picture. Poor lighting can effect the details and colouring of your pet so always best to take your picture in natural daylight.
  • Please consider the background choice to your pets photo. If they have light fur they are best placed in front of a dark background and visa versa. I find using a contrasting blanket as the backdrop can work well.
  • If your pet wears any accessories such as a jumper, I like to paint them into the portrait as this can add real character in your finished portrait.
  • I love to paint your pets favourite toys too. Don't worry if you can't get them in the same photo as your pet. You can always send me additional photos.
  • Please feel free to send me a range of photos as I can advise you on which one will work best and it enables me to see the character of your pet.
  • Sadly if your pet has passed away, please send me the best photos you have of them and I will do my best to create you your special portrait.
  • Simply CONTACT ME HERE with your photos for me to provide you with a no obligation quote. The price is dependant on your personal requirements and will be quoted along with payment terms before the commission is started.

Tips on taking a photo of your home for your house portrait.

  • Firstly don't worry if the sun is not shining in your photo as I can paint in a blue sky! Just as long as there is good lighting when you take your photos.
  • Also please ensure your photo is of a high resolution as you will be stood further back from your home and I still need to see the detail.
  • Before taking your photos please remove cars off the driveway and remove your wheelie bins from view.
  • Think about what angle you would like your home to be painted from. Feel free to take a range of photos and I can advise you on what I think would work best. Often taking a photo of your home from an angle can make for a dynamic portrait.
  • Don't worry if your garden is not looking at it's best, as I can paint you a lush green lawn and flowers in all your hanging baskets!
  • Also I can leave out any satellite dishes etc and neighbouring properties from your painting too.

House Portrait Client Testimonial.

'Cobbler's' House Portrait, Watercolour & Ink.

"It took a Radio Norfolk programme for me to discover that right here in Shipdham, we have our very own resident artist... complete with an art gallery! Emma Wells breathes fresh new life into the concept of house portraiture cleverly using pen, brush, colour wash and ink, deftly applied in her unique style. I commissioned Emma to create her vision of my cottage.... and I wasn't disappointed. The result is a painting that is cheerful and bright and brings a smile to my face every time I pass it. You couldn't ask for more from a painting!" - Ted

OTHER INFORMATION.

Please note if you have a commission in mind to be completed for a specific date such as Christmas please allow Emma as much notice as possible. A typical commission can take approximately four to six weeks from start to framed completion.

When Emma starts to create your commission, she will start by working on an outline drawing of your piece and will send you an email containing photos to you to make sure you are happy with progress. Any adjustments can be made at that stage, after this point once Emma has started on the detail of your painting it can be much harder to make any changes.

Please note that as the artist, Emma retains the copyright to all of the artwork she creates unless otherwise agreed. She may therefore use the images on this website and on her other social media platforms.  If you would prefer that she did not do this, please let Emma know at the start of the commission process.

Each commission is priced individually and will be agreed with you. Framing is available and will be priced separately.

Commission deposits cannot be refunded.
